Senate Stops Increase In Data Tariff
The Nigerian Senate has halted the planned hike in the price of data, which was to start from tomorrow, December 1, 2016.
Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Ibn N’Allah, during Tuesday’s plenary session, raised a motion on the directive by the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, requesting telecoms operators to increase data tariffs.
Senators present at the plenary unanimously condemned the planned increase of data tariffs by the service providers in tandem with NCC and called for it to be halted.
The Senate Committee on Communications was mandated to carry out a thorough oversight on the process to ensure that Nigerians are carried along in the matter. This is to ensure the citizens are not shortchanged.
Last month, the NCC directed the service providers to increase data subscription by almost 100 per cent from tomorrow.
This may make a data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 gigabytes to cost N3,000 at N1,000 per 500 megabytes.

Philips Morris International, Manufacturers Of Marlboro Tobacco To Stop Selling Cigarettes
Philip Morris International, the world’s largest international tobacco company, could eventually stop selling cigarettes, said its chief executive, Andre Calantzopoulos on Wednesday.
He disclosed this to newsmen at the launch of its alternative product IQOS in the UK market.
He said, “The company’s IQOS smokeless cigarette is already on sale in over a dozen markets including Japan, Switzerland and Italy.
“IQOS smokeless cigarette heats tobacco enough to produce a vapour without burning it and much less harmful than cigarettes.
“I believe there will come a moment in time where I would say we have sufficient adoption of these alternative products to start envisaging, together with governments, a phase-out period for cigarettes.
“I hope this time will come soon.”

President Buhari’s Daughter’s Wedding Put On Hold Over Expensive Gifts
Reports have it that the wedding ceremony between President Buhari’s daughter Zahra, and Ahmed Indimni, which was scheduled for December 4, 2016, has been put on hold indefinitely.
According to Daily Post, the wedding was put on hold following the insistence of President Muhammadu Buhari that he was not comfortable with the attention his daughter’s wedding was receiving in the media, particularly with news of customised wedding boxes as gifts to Zahra, costing a whopping N44m.
Sources said introduction ceremony between both families had earlier held at the Aso Villa, Abuja on Friday, November 18, but the wedding programme itself scheduled between Wednesday 30th November and Sunday 4th December, 2016, is supposed to be a low-key celebration as the President desires it to be a simple and an intimate ceremony to be attended by only close family and friends.
“But the whole media attention has changed everything now and the President is not happy,” our source said.
It was also gathered that the President who has ordered that a security check be conducted on Ahmed and his source of stupendous wealth, is also not comfortable with the groom’s father, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi’s perceived closeness to ex-President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, who is believed to be against the emergence of Buhari in 2015.
Sources said President Buhari who had such information at his disposal before consenting to the marriage may have been prevailed upon by his closest political allies to have a rethink on giving out his daughter to the Indimis.

She is reported to have received about 30 customized LV (Louis Vuitton) boxes from the family of her husband-to-be, Ahmed Indimi.

“The LV bags which total about 30 and allegedly cost about £120, 000 (approximately N47,144,502, using the official rate of N392.87 to a pound) are said to have been delivered to Zahra in 30 exotic cars,” our source said.

Idah said there was nothing true about the report, noting that it was totally against his “character, moral rectitude, ideals and qualities.”
The rector stated, “I was highly embarrassed by the report. The school, the students, my family including my parents, were all embarrassed and assaulted by the falsehood.
“My friends all over the country and the world have been calling me over this incident to confirm whether l was still alive. You can see that l am alive and kicking.”
The rector said he had already briefed his lawyers, demanding that they take legal action against the online newspapers.
