Men Are Painting One Of Their Fingers This Month, Find Out The Heartbreaking Reason

You may have seen some of the men in your life walking around with one fingernail painted and wondered what was going on.
Well, the reason is, for the third October in a row, men are painting one of their fingernails in support of an Australian non-profit organisation called YGAP.
As part of a social campaign called Polished Man, YGAP aims to raise awareness surrounding violence against children. The organisation is currently raising money to help the one in five children who experience physical and/or sexual violence before the age of 18.
The YGAP website states: ‘Polished Man starts with painting a fingernail. That nail leads to a conversation. that conversation inspires a donation. That donation allows for awareness, prevention and protection.
‘And it ends with a world where no child suffers from violence.’
The campaign was started by Elliot Costello, CEO of YGAP. He was inspired to start it after meeting a girl named Thea at Hagar International in Cambodia. Thea had been a victim of abuse – both sexual and physical, while staying in an orphanage.
Elliot was touched by the story and came up with the idea of the painted nails – inspired by the fact that Thea had painted his nails as they chatted.
The campaign has really taken off, with the likes of Chris Hemsworth showing his support. Women are asked to help too, by telling the world they ‘prefer a Polished Man’.
